Electronic Growth Model (EGM)

      The three components to the EGM are:
  • Charge transfer: Causes an attractive forces act to destabilize the metal thin film.
  • Electronic confinement: Repulsive forces resulting from electrons trapped between the interface and surface (quantum size effects (QSE)).
  • Friedel oscillations: Impose an oscillatory modulation in either of the first two effects.
